Day by day
Day1
Casablanca – Rabat
Hassan II Mosque, then Rabat: the Hassan Tower, the mausoleum of Mohammed V and the Kasbah of the Oudayas.
A short drive along the coast brings you to Rabat, the elegant and calm capital of Morocco. You visit the unfinished Hassan Tower and the marble mausoleum of Mohammed V, guarded by the royal guard, then walk through the blue and white lanes of the Kasbah of the Oudayas, with its Andalusian garden and views over the ocean and the river.
Day2
Rabat – Meknes – Volubilis – Fes
Bab Mansour and the royal stables of Meknes, the Roman ruins of Volubilis and arrival in Fes.
Heading inland, you reach Meknes, the imperial city of Sultan Moulay Ismail, famous for the monumental gate of Bab Mansour and the huge royal granaries. Nearby lies Volubilis, the best-preserved Roman site in Morocco, where you walk among columns, a triumphal arch and colourful floor mosaics. A last view of the holy town of Moulay Idriss and you continue to Fes.
Day3
Fes – the medina
Guided visit of Fes el Bali: the tanneries, the madrasas and the souks.
Fes el-Bali is one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site. With a local guide you walk its maze of more than nine thousand lanes: the Bou Inania madrasa with its carved cedar and zellige tiles, the Al Quaraouiyine mosque and university, the Nejjarine fountain and the Chouara tanneries, seen from a terrace. You also meet weavers, coppersmiths and potters at work.
Day4
Fes – crafts and views
Pottery and mosaic workshops, the Jewish quarter and the panoramic views from the Merinid tombs.
A second day in Fes to go deeper. In the morning you visit a pottery and zellige workshop outside the walls, where the tiles of the madrasas are still cut by hand. Then the royal palace gates of Fes el-Jdid, the Mellah and the panoramic Borj Nord, and a free afternoon in the souks or in a hammam.
Day5
Fes – Casablanca
Drive back to Casablanca or transfer to Fes airport.
After breakfast you leave Fes on the motorway west, with an optional stop in Rabat for lunch or a last walk. You arrive in Casablanca in the afternoon, in time for your flight or for a final evening on the Corniche.
