Two white towns of the north: the Andalusian medina of Tetouan and the art-filled ramparts of Asilah by the Atlantic.
Tetouan, a UNESCO-listed medina with strong Andalusian roots, and Asilah, a seaside town painted white and blue, show a softer and very Mediterranean side of Morocco.
A day to discover the Andalusian and Mediterranean soul of northern Morocco, very different from the south. Both towns are calm, clean and pleasant to walk.
Asilah is at its liveliest in summer, during the arts festival.

Day by day
Part1
Morning · Tetouan
Walk through the white medina, the artisans' quarter and the royal square.
Tetouan was rebuilt by Andalusian refugees from Granada and its medina keeps that heritage. You walk through the white lanes, the souks of the artisans, the leather and the jewellers, and see the royal palace on Hassan II square.
Part2
Midday · The coast
Lunch on the way and the drive to the Atlantic.
We cross back towards the Atlantic coast, with a stop for lunch, fresh fish or a traditional Moroccan meal, on the way.
Part3
Afternoon · Asilah
The ramparts, the murals and the seafront of Asilah, then back to Tangier.
Asilah is a peaceful seaside town inside Portuguese walls, with white houses, blue doors and murals painted during its summer arts festival. Walk the ramparts above the ocean before returning to Tangier in the evening.
