Day by day
Day1
Arrival in Fes
Airport pick-up and transfer to your riad.
Your driver meets you at Fes airport and takes you to a riad in or near the old medina. Depending on your arrival time, you can take a first walk to the Bab Boujloud, the famous blue gate of the medina, or enjoy the view of the city at sunset from the Merinid Tombs on the hill.
Day2
Fes
Guided visit of the medina, the tanneries and the madrasas.
Fes el-Bali is one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site. With a local guide you walk its maze of more than nine thousand lanes: the Bou Inania madrasa with its carved cedar and zellige tiles, the Al Quaraouiyine mosque and university, the Nejjarine fountain and the Chouara tanneries, seen from a terrace. You also meet weavers, coppersmiths and potters at work.
Day3
Fes – Meknes – Volubilis – Chefchaouen
Imperial Meknes, the Roman ruins and the road to the Rif.
Leaving Fes, you first visit Meknes, the city of Moulay Ismail, with Bab Mansour and the royal granaries, and then the Roman ruins of Volubilis and the view of Moulay Idriss. In the afternoon the road climbs north into the Rif to Chefchaouen, where you sleep in the blue medina.
Day4
Chefchaouen – Rabat
Morning in the blue town and drive to the capital.
After a last morning in Chefchaouen, the road descends from the Rif to the Atlantic plains and follows the coast south to Rabat. In the late afternoon you can walk in the Kasbah of the Oudayas and along the river before dinner.
Day5
Rabat – Casablanca – Marrakech
The Hassan II Mosque and the motorway south.
After a morning visit of Rabat's monuments, you drive to Casablanca to see the Hassan II Mosque by the ocean. In the afternoon the motorway takes you south across the plains to Marrakech, where you arrive in time for dinner.
Day6
Marrakech
Guided visit of the red city.
With a licensed local guide you discover the essentials of the red city: the minaret of the Koutoubia, the painted ceilings and gardens of the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs and the old Jewish quarter of the Mellah. In the afternoon you get lost in the souks of spices, leather, lanterns and carpets, and at sunset you watch Jemaa el-Fna fill with life from a café terrace.
Day7
Marrakech
A free day in Marrakech.
A day to enjoy Marrakech at your own pace. You can visit the Majorelle Garden and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, relax in a traditional hammam, join a Moroccan cooking class or simply shop in the souks. If you prefer, we can organise an excursion to the Agafay stone desert or the Atlas valleys.
Day8
Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
The High Atlas and the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou.
The road over the High Atlas offers some of the most spectacular views of Morocco, with stops in Berber villages and at the Tizi n'Tichka pass. In the afternoon you explore Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed ksar of red earth on a hill above the river, and continue to Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert, known for its film studios and the kasbah of Taourirt.
Day9
Ouarzazate – Dades
Skoura and the Rose Valley to the Dades gorges.
A short and beautiful stage east of Ouarzazate. You visit the palm grove and kasbahs of Skoura, stop in Kalaat M'Gouna, famous for its roses, and drive up the Dades gorges to see the curious rock formations known as the Monkey Fingers and the famous winding road.
Day10
Dades – Todra – Merzouga
The Todra gorges and the road to the dunes.
In the morning you drive to Tinghir and walk into the Todra gorges, where the river runs between vertical red cliffs that rise hundreds of metres high. The road then crosses the plateau of the ksour, with Tinejdad, Erfoud and the palm groves of the Tafilalet, until the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi appear on the horizon at Merzouga.
Day11
Merzouga
Desert tour, camel ride and night in the camp.
Merzouga is the gateway to Erg Chebbi, a sea of orange dunes up to 150 metres high. By 4x4 you visit a nomad family for tea, the village of Khamlia, where Gnawa musicians of sub-Saharan origin play their hypnotic music, the seasonal lake and the black stone desert. In the late afternoon a camel caravan takes you into the dunes for sunset and the night in the camp, with dinner, drums around the fire and a sky full of stars.
Day12
Merzouga – Midelt
The Ziz valley to the apple town of Midelt.
After the sunrise you have a calm morning in Merzouga and then drive north through the Tafilalet and the Ziz gorges, with stops in the palm groves and at the viewpoints. In the afternoon you reach Midelt, a quiet mountain town surrounded by apple orchards and the peaks of the Ayachi.
