From Ouarzazate to the dunes of Merzouga and back west to Marrakech, through the gorges and the Draa valley.
A complete desert loop for travellers already in Ouarzazate. You go east by the road of the kasbahs, spend a night in Erg Chebbi, return by the Draa valley and finish in Marrakech.
A complete desert loop for travellers who are already in Ouarzazate, for example after a night in Ait Ben Haddou or a visit to the film studios. You see the best of the south-east and finish in Marrakech.
The return through N'Kob and the Draa valley shows a wilder and less visited side of Morocco.

Day by day
Day1
Ouarzazate – Dades – Todra
Skoura, the Rose Valley and the gorges. Night near Todra.
East of Ouarzazate you follow the road of the thousand kasbahs: the palm grove of Skoura, the Rose Valley of Kalaat M'Gouna and the curving road of the Dades gorges. In the afternoon you continue to Tinghir and walk into the narrow Todra gorges before the night.
Day2
Todra – Merzouga
Erfoud and Rissani, then camel ride and night in the camp.
From the Todra gorges you cross the stony plateau to Tinejdad and the oasis of Erfoud, known for its fossils and dates. After a stop in Rissani, the old caravan capital of the Tafilalet, you arrive in Merzouga and the dunes of Erg Chebbi.
Day3
Merzouga – Draa – Ouarzazate
Sunrise and the road through Alnif, N'Kob and the Draa valley.
After sunrise you take the southern road west, between the Saghro mountains and the desert: Rissani, Alnif, known for its fossils, and the village of N'Kob with its many kasbahs. You then follow the Draa valley, a ribbon of palm trees, and reach Ouarzazate in the evening.
Day4
Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Ait Ben Haddou and the Tizi n'Tichka pass to Marrakech.
A short drive from Ouarzazate brings you to Ait Ben Haddou, where you walk up through the ksar to the old granary at the top for the view over the valley. Then the road climbs the Tizi n'Tichka pass and descends through Berber villages and argan cooperatives to Marrakech.
