You stay in riads inside the medinas, and every city visit is with a licensed local guide who knows its stories and hidden corners.

Day by day

Day1

Arrival in Marrakech

Airport pick-up and transfer to your riad in the medina.

Your driver waits for you in the arrivals hall with a sign in your name and takes you to your riad inside the medina, a traditional house built around a patio with a fountain and orange trees. After a mint tea of welcome, rest or take your first walk to Jemaa el-Fna, the great square that comes alive at dusk with storytellers, musicians and dozens of food stalls.

Day2

Marrakech

Guided visit: the Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia, the souks and Jemaa el-Fna.

With a licensed local guide you discover the essentials of the red city: the minaret of the Koutoubia, the painted ceilings and gardens of the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs and the old Jewish quarter of the Mellah. In the afternoon you get lost in the souks of spices, leather, lanterns and carpets, and at sunset you watch Jemaa el-Fna fill with life from a café terrace.

Day3

Marrakech – Casablanca – Rabat

The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, then the capital, Rabat.

The motorway takes you north across the plains to Casablanca, where you visit the Hassan II Mosque by the ocean. After lunch you continue along the coast to Rabat, the capital, for a first walk in its gardens and the Kasbah of the Oudayas at the end of the afternoon.

Day4

Rabat – Meknes – Volubilis – Fes

The Hassan Tower, then Meknes, the Roman ruins of Volubilis and Fes.

Heading inland, you reach Meknes, the imperial city of Sultan Moulay Ismail, famous for the monumental gate of Bab Mansour and the huge royal granaries. Nearby lies Volubilis, the best-preserved Roman site in Morocco, where you walk among columns, a triumphal arch and colourful floor mosaics. A last view of the holy town of Moulay Idriss and you continue to Fes.

Day5

Fes

Guided visit of the medina, the tanneries and the Bou Inania madrasa.

Fes el-Bali is one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site. With a local guide you walk its maze of more than nine thousand lanes: the Bou Inania madrasa with its carved cedar and zellige tiles, the Al Quaraouiyine mosque and university, the Nejjarine fountain and the Chouara tanneries, seen from a terrace. You also meet weavers, coppersmiths and potters at work.

Day6

Fes – Chefchaouen – Fes

A day trip to the blue town of the Rif mountains.

A day trip from Fes to the Rif mountains, about three and a half hours each way through green hills. In Chefchaouen you have several hours to walk the blue medina, see the kasbah and the Ras el-Maa spring and have lunch in the main square before returning to Fes in the evening.

Day7

Fes – Ifrane – Marrakech

The cedar forest of Ifrane and the long road south to Marrakech.

A long but beautiful travel day. You cross the Middle Atlas through Ifrane and the cedar forest of Azrou, home of the Barbary macaques, then descend to the plains of Beni Mellal at the foot of the mountains and continue south to Marrakech, arriving in the evening.
