How Many Days Do You Need in Morocco?

From a long weekend to two weeks: what you can really see in Morocco depending on the days you have.

Morocco is bigger than it looks on the map. Distances between the cities and the desert are long, and the roads cross mountains, so planning the right number of days makes the difference between a rushed trip and a relaxed one.

3 or 4 days

With three or four days, choose one region. From Marrakech you can reach the Sahara of Merzouga and come back, or go one way to Fes. From Fes, a three-day trip to the dunes is easy. Add a day in Marrakech or Fes if you can.

One week

Seven days is the ideal first trip. A classic route is Marrakech, the High Atlas, the gorges, a night in the desert, Fes and Chefchaouen. You see the three icons of Morocco — the Sahara, the medina of Fes and the blue town — without driving too much each day.

10 days

With ten days you can add the imperial cities of Rabat and Meknes, the Roman ruins of Volubilis and a couple of days by the ocean in Essaouira. It is enough time to slow down and enjoy the riads and the food.

Two weeks or more

Two weeks let you explore the quieter south — Taroudant, the Anti-Atlas, the Draa valley — or combine the desert with hiking in the Atlas or a beach stay in Agadir.

Our tip

Count the driving time, not only the kilometres. Marrakech to Merzouga is about 560 km but takes around nine hours with stops. That is why we split it into two days, with a night in the Dades valley.
