Is Morocco Safe for Travellers?

Morocco welcomes millions of visitors every year. Here is honest, practical advice to travel calmly, from the medinas to the desert.
Morocco is one of the most visited countries in Africa, and most travellers feel safe and very welcome. Like anywhere, a little common sense makes the trip smoother.
In the cities
The medinas of Marrakech and Fes are busy and lively. Keep your phone and wallet in a front pocket, and be careful with people who offer to show you the way: a polite "no, thank you" is enough. If you get lost, ask in a shop or a café.
Prices and bargaining
In the souks, bargaining is normal and part of the culture. Take your time, smile and decide your price before you start. In restaurants and shops with fixed prices, there is nothing to negotiate.
On the road
Travelling with a private driver is the most comfortable and safe way to cross the country. Roads in the south are in good condition, and your driver knows where to stop, eat and rest.
In the desert
Merzouga and the villages of the south are calm and friendly. In the camp you are always with our team, and you only walk in the dunes nearby or with a guide.
Respect and courtesy
Dress modestly in the villages and ask before taking photos of people. A few words of Arabic or French — salam, shukran, merci — are always appreciated.
