What to Wear in Morocco

Comfortable, respectful and adapted to the season: practical clothing advice for the cities, the mountains and the desert.
There is no strict dress code for visitors in Morocco, but choosing the right clothes helps you feel comfortable and shows respect for local culture.
In the cities
In Marrakech, Fes or Casablanca, light trousers, long skirts and T-shirts that cover the shoulders are ideal. Modern districts are relaxed, while the medinas and villages are more traditional.
In the mountains
The High Atlas can be cool even in spring, and the Tizi n'Tichka pass is above 2,000 metres. Bring a light jacket and good walking shoes for the gorges.
In the desert
Loose, long clothes protect you from the sun better than shorts. A scarf is perfect for sand and wind, and a warm layer is essential for the night.
Visiting religious sites
Most mosques are closed to non-Muslims, with the great exception of the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca. For the visit, cover shoulders and knees; women may wish to bring a scarf.
Our simple rule
Pack light layers: something cool for the day, something warm for the evening, and one comfortable pair of shoes. You will be ready for everything Morocco offers.
