Day Trip from Marrakech to Essaouira

1 dayTours from MarrakechPrivateTailor-made

A private day on the Atlantic coast: argan trees, the blue boats of the port and the white medina of Essaouira.

Essaouira is the perfect escape from the heat and noise of Marrakech. On the way we stop at an argan cooperative, and if we are lucky we see goats climbing the trees.

In town you have free time for the port, the ramparts, the art galleries of the medina and a lunch of fresh fish.

Essaouira is the perfect break from the heat and the bustle of Marrakech. The town is relaxed, the sea breeze is fresh all year and the medina is easy to walk, with no need for a guide.

The drive is about three hours each way, with stops in the argan forest. Being private, you can leave as early as you like and stay longer by the sea.

Tour highlights

  • Goats in the argan trees

Day by day

Part1

Morning · Marrakech – the argan road

Pick-up at your riad and drive west across the plains, with a stop at an argan cooperative.

Pick-up at your riad early in the morning. The road crosses the plains west of Marrakech and enters the argan forest, where goats climb into the trees to eat the fruit. We stop at a women's cooperative to see how argan oil is made by hand and taste amlou, a spread of argan, almonds and honey.

Part2

Midday · Essaouira

The fishing port, the Skala ramparts and the medina at your own pace. Lunch by the harbour.

In Essaouira you have free time to discover the port, where blue fishing boats unload the catch and seagulls fly over the Skala ramparts. Walk through the relaxed medina, a UNESCO site, with its art galleries and thuya wood workshops, and have lunch with grilled sardines or a seafood tajine.

Part3

Afternoon · Back to Marrakech

A last walk on the beach and the drive back, arriving in the early evening.

After a last walk on the beach or a coffee in the main square, we drive back through the argan forest and arrive in Marrakech in the early evening, in time for dinner.
